2009 Varsity Soccer Schedule (updated 10/27/2009)

Team Highlights

11/6/09 - The Bears ended their season in heart-breaking fashion Thursday afternoon, falling 1-0 (PK's) to St. Mary's in MMAA semifinal action. After playing to a 40-minute, 0-0 regulation draw, the Lancers and Bears battled through two 10-minute overtime sessions, a best-of-five penalty kick round, and a sudden death penalty kick round. The round of five PK's saw each team score twice, before St. Mary's notched the deciding goal in the sudden death PK round. This story is all too familiar for the Bears, as they've been ousted from the playoffs each of the last three seasons, at the hands of the Lancers. Despite the early exit from the playoffs, the Bears remain confident for next season, with a core group of young talent still in tact.

10/27/09 - IA closed out the regular season last week, much the same way the opened the season. The girls notched two more wins, vs. St. Mary's and Holy Angels, finishing the season with five consecutive wins. The Bears knocked off St. Mary's 3-1 last Monday, followed up with a 3-0 win over Holy Angels on Wednesday. Chloe McKee, Alexis Snyder, Fran Heitanen, and Sarah Harris combined for the Bears goals in the two wins. Madisen Kiernan posted her 5th shutout on the year, in the win over Holy Angels.
The girls finished the season with a 7-1-2 league record, good enough for a first-round playoff bye, with a semifinals match scheduled for Thurs. Nov. 4.

10/16/09 - The Bears notched their seventh win in the last nine games, defeating Niagara Catholic for the second time this season, 2-0. Marissa Miniri netted both goals for IA, whose record now stands at 9-3-2 overall and 6-1-2 in the MMAA league. The girls will close out the regular season next week, with matches against St. Mary's and Holy Angels.

10/14/09 - IA got back on track the last two games, defeating Cardindal O'Hara 2-1 on Friday afternoon, followed by a 1-0 shutout of Christian Central Academy on Tuesday. Grace Wach and Chloe McKee scored the pair of IA goals in Friday's matchup, while Caitlyn Fennell notched the lone goal, with an assist from Alexis Snyder, in Tuesday's win. Madisen Kiernan also recorded her 4th shutout of the year. The Bears record now stands at 8-3-2 overall, with a 4-1-2 league record, with Niagara Catholic next on the schedule, this Thursday.

10/7/09 - The Bears momentum has slowed a bit this week, dropping a 2-0 decision to Mt. Mercy on Monday afternoon and playing to a 2-2 tie with Buffalo Seminary on Tuesday. Madisen Kiernan recorded 22 saves in the loss to Mt. Mercy. Grace Wach and Elaina Perez notched the two Bears' goals in Tuesday's match. With a 6-3-2 overall record, IA is now in second place in MMAA Division II. They'll travel to Cardinal O'Hara this Friday for their next match.

10/5/09 - IA posted their second consecutive shutout on Friday, defeating St. Mary's, 1-0. Grace Wach scored the lone goal, with Alexis Snyder drawing the assist. Madisen Kiernan posted her third shutout on the year, recording 15 saves. The Bears will host Mt. Mercy on Monday, before traveling to Buffalo Seminary and Cardinal O'Hara on Tuesday and Friday this week.

9/30/09 - The Bears split two games over the last few days, falling to Frontier 6-0 on Friday night, but bouncing back with a 5-0 league win over Nigara Catholic on Tuesday afternoon. Cassie Pawlowski scored a pair of goals in the win, while Madison Kiernan posted a shutout with seven saves. IA's record now stands at 5-2-1 overall with a 2-1-1 league record.

9/24/09 - IA lost a tough game to Christian Central Academy on Wednesday evening, 4-2. Alexis Snyder scored both goals for the Bears. The girls will host Frontier @ Hilbert College on Friday, 9/25, 4;30 p.m.

9/18/09 - The girls improved their undefeated record to 4-0-1 (1-0-1 league), with a 5-3 win over Cardinal O'Hara, Thursday afternoon. In a very balanced effort, Barret Armstrong, Elaina Perez, Grace Wach, Alexis Snyder, and Hanna Metzger all found the back of the net for the Bears. Snyder now leads IA in scoring with five goals and an assist.

9/16/09 - The Bears played Buffalo Seminary to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday afternoon, bringing their record to 3-0-1. Hanna Metzger (1 G) and Alexis Snyder (1 A) combined for IA's only goal, while Madisen Kiernan added 13 saves in goal. The girls will host Cardinal O'Hara Thursday afternoon, 4:30 at Hilbert.
